“Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit."

The following appointments have been made since our last issue:

Prefects (Girls): Janice Lyne.

Captain of Cricket: D. Squire.

Captain of Tennis: Annette Milverton.

Captain of Athletics (Boys): R. Brownjohn.

Mrs. Bevan left us at the end of the Autumn term. Mr. Sawyer joined us for the Spring and Summer Terms. Miss Beer has replaced Miss Chaffe, who left at the end of the Easter term.

Miss De'Arth was married at Christmas, and her place as School Secretary has been taken by Mrs. Voisey.

Our School Play, "Toad of Toad Hall", was produced in the Spring Term. It was again a successful venture, and a more detailed account appears elsewhere in this magazine.

Searle, the Head Boy, was chosen to join No. 178 Outward Bound Course at Aberdovey. His report appears on page 13.

The Carol Service was held on December 17th, 1957, in Holy Trinity Church. Members of the Staff and School were responsible for the readings.

The Form Parties took place in the last week of the Autumn term. Numbers in the Fifth and Sixth Forms made it necessary to provide a cafeteria meal instead of the usual and more formal supper. According to custom, the Staff provided some light entertainment in the shape of a Tug-of-War.

A report of the trip to Venice appears elsewhere in this magazine. Plans for the Christmas holiday, 1958 - 59 are also given.

On January 11th, Eve Perry and Jupp of 3A, represented the Western Region in the B.B.C. Children's Hour Regional Round, and gained 2nd place to Scotland.

The total of National Savings for the Autumn and Spring Terms was £65 12s. 0d.

The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company do not visit Exeter frequently and we were particularly lucky this term to have them for two weeks at the Theatre Royal. On Tuesday, May 6th, a party of fifty-four saw "lolanthe". Those who were seeing it for the first time thoroughly enjoyed the performance, the second Act particularly. Those of us who had seen "lolanthe" before were attracted by the new costumes and settings. One day, perhaps, we may be able to stage a Gilbert and Sullivan opera in the School hall.
