We said goodbye at the end of the Summer Term to Mr. Amos and Mr. Heath. Their services to the School have been recognised in articles immediately following these Chronicles.
We welcome as new members of staff
Mr. D. L. Amor, B.Sc., who comes to us from Southampton University, after a
period of National Service; Mr. I. Carswell, B.A., A.R.C.O., who teaches Music,
English and History; and Mr. F. E. S. Finn, B.A., who comes to us from Ashford
Grammar School in Kent to take charge of English.
Mlle. J. Robichon, L. -es- L., who
comes from the Ardennes, near the Franco - Belgian border, is our French assistante
for this year.
The total of National Savings for
the Summer Term, 1955, was £43 5s. 0d.
Messrs. Fudge, Gibson and Carswell
are planning a 10-day tour of Bruges and Brussels for the first part of the
Easter Holiday next year. Arrangements are not yet complete, but the tour will
be for senior boys and will cost about £16 exclusive of pocket money and transport
to and from London.
We have continued our fortnightly
Country Dances at School on Monday evenings this term, but numbers have been
small owing to other activities taking place on the same evening.
In an attempt to revive interest
we have changed our night to Thursdays and the larger attendances on our first
two nights have proved that these dances for fifth and sixth formers are still
popular.
Several members of staff and their
wives attend and have found that this community type of dancing is an energetic
but enjoyable means of getting physical recreation.
