MUSIC AND DRAMA SOCIETY
In the last magazine we gave preliminary notice of the
production of a School Play. Since that date tremendous activity has centred
round the preparations for our performance of Bernard Shaw's "St.
Joan". Ordinary meetings have been abandoned and rehearsals, starting very
quietly on two nights a week, have stepped up to four and five every week. Time
is all too short, even for the acting side of the production; this is probably
the least of our worries. We thought it very desirable to put on the play in
our own Hall, and this has meant enlarging the stage by building an
"apron". Lighting has provided problems; "stage" lighting
as such did not exist and it has been necessary to put up brackets in the Hall
to take spotlights. These, in turn, have required new wiring and the making of
a switchboard. To provide adequate "wings" battens have been fixed to
the stage ceiling to take curtain tracks.
It will be realised that all these jobs have not been done
without the assistance of many members of the Staff and the school, whom we
wish to thank for their skill and readiness to help.
