Mrs. Heard left us at the end of the Summer Term. We wish her every happiness in the future.

We welcome four new members of staff this term, and wish them a long and happy stay at the School. Miss Yelland comes to us from the University of Southampton to take English and French. Succeeding Mr. Earp in charge of Geography is Mr. D. Beresford-Williams, who has been teaching at Westcliff High School, Essex. Mr. Ellis has come from Windsor County Boys' School to take charge of Chemistry, and Mr. Miller, who was at the University of Bristol, is assisting with History, Geography and Latin.

County Major Scholarships have been awarded to D. Luxon and P. Marlow.

The House System is in process of being re-organised. In addition to sport, other activities may now be introduced for purposes of competition. There will be a Verse-speaking competition at the end of this term and House plays during the Easter term.

Halle Concert.

The Halle Orchestra and Sir John Barbirolli do not visit Exeter frequently, but a School party thoroughly enjoyed the concert given in the Cathedral on September 28th. The programme included Brahms' 4th Symphony and Elgar's Enigma Variations.

H.M.S. Pinafore.

On July 12th last, forty members of Staff and School visited The Pavilion, Bournemouth, to see a performance of "H.M.S. Pinafore" given by the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company. Since then our School play for this year has been changed, but, nevertheless, the long journey was well worth while as the production was a thoroughly enjoyable one.

It should be possible to take an even larger party to see the D'Oyly Carte Company when it visits the Theatre Royal, Exeter, for a fortnight at the beginning of next Summer term.
